Reflection Time
This week is a period of transition for me. I'm in the midst of a brief transition between employers, and also some lengthier transitions on the home network.
(I really need to shore up some aspects of my home network, and provide a new network diagram. And I have to finish up some loose ends with technology migrations that I began this year.)
I also hope to finish a couple of articles that I've been working on, including one on the "Pitfalls of Measuring ROI for all types of Investments".
Other than my aforementioned Exchange 2007 migration, I'm going to try and relax this weekend and prepare for a very interesting week after the Memorial Weekend.
Before I go, I'd like to make just one comment on one aspect of Microsoft's design decisions: I really, really wish they would deprecate certain functionality or technologies a little later in a product release cycle than they currently do. Example: Instead of removing the public folder administration GUI *with* the release of Exchange 2007, why not add it one last time for that version, and then publicize it's demise for the NEXT version of the product? I can think of a lot more examples across product lines, and it is one of the main things that cause people to take a step back from what might otherwise be a straightforward migration or transition scenario... It's really not that hard, folks, and it would give us years to get used to dealing with the impending doom of a function, rather than weeks or months. (As it is, they may end up putting it back in via a ServicePack, which would complicate that deployment as well.)
